Remedies + Miscellaneous
Mama Brit just can’t fork out six hundred bucks for a single near-infrared light right now, ya feel me?
I had thought about making my own for awhile, but as per usual, I kept over thinking myself out of it.
Luckily, there are lots of natural ways to prevent hangovers because even those of us living a clean lifestyle need to kick back a few cocktails from time to time, amiright? Especially if you have health issues and slow detox pathways, even one or two drinks can leave you with a 2 day hangover. So let’s fix that!
I get asked a lot of questions about my health. It has evolved over the years from "what the heck is wrong with you, you look fine?" into "what kind of doctors are treating you and what testing did you have?" Well we're about to get into it ALL.
I have gotten A LOT of questions about how to stay healthy when traveling and flying. It's not just the dirty, germy airplane air that makes us sick, it's also the added stress of travel, which dampens immunity. On top of that - most people don't eat well on vacation (and they're drinking) so all this just creates a perfect environment for viruses to take over.
DENTAL
It’s quite possible you’ve never been tested for Periodontal Disease, because I wasn’t and I’ve been to 8 dentists. According to the CDC, half of Americans have Periodontal Disease — and unfortunately — I am one of those people.
Now if the girl in the surgeon's office, who talked to me the day before wasn't a complete idiot, I wouldn't have any traumatic memories to recollect for you right now. So I guess, in a way, this blog is dedicated to her.
Regardless of the reason you're having a tooth extracted, it needs to be done properly. If you're having it done to get rid of a bad root canal, then you REALLY want to make sure it's done right or you could end up in a bigger mess than you started with.
It's almost like dentists are dying to do root canals. They are dying to keep a dying tooth in your mouth. Just wanted to see how many times I could slip dying in that intro. There's literally a sign hanging up in my Endodontist office that has a list of symptoms for self diagnosis and tells you: ask for a root canal today!
INFERTILITY
"I can't have kids, now what?" was one of the top search terms bringing people to Celery and the City. Although I have several posts about my own infertility journey, I have never written directly to those struggling with this question— a question with which I wrestled for a quite sometime. But I am happy to tell you that I am now at a place of complete peace and acceptance.
If you're confused as to why I'm even writing about something so personal as infertility or weird health problems, I can only assume we aren't real life friends. And also, you have never read any of my blogs before. So, let me introduce myself. I'm Brit, and I'm about to talk about my uterus now, ok?
My mom's photo albums are so ugly. I mean, they are basically a bunch of photos clinging onto black construction paper with those jenky - now yellowish - photo corners. You know the ones.
As with everything I write, this is unfortunately garnered from my actual experience. When I first started telling people what was going on, I was met with a buffet of unsolicited advice and insensitive comments about infertility - as outlined below.
This is the continuation of my previous post Here's Why I Can't Have Kids. You Can Stop Asking Now. And you really need to read that if you're gonna read this. I don't ask much of you, so can you just not be the worst and read it already?
gut health
Probiotics have been a bit controversial when it comes to treating SIBO. Seems a bit contradictory to throw an over abundance of bacteria when you already a problem of too much bacteria right?
Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) is defined as the presence of an abnormally high number of coliform bacteria in the small bowel. First, make sure you’ve read part 1 of this blog: Understanding Sibo, which goes into understanding the condition, the symptoms, and how to properly diagnose it.
I'm acutely aware of the lack of information out there about SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth), which is sad because it is now estimated that up to 78% of IBS cases can be attributed to Sibo. Also, a staggering 66% of patients with celiac disease tested positive for bacterial overgrowth according to the American Journal of Gastroenterology.
So, probiotics. This is a confusing topic to many, and one of the most common things I get asked about. I’d say we’ve reached epidemic levels of digestive problems. Given my personal health issues stem from digestive imbalances - SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth), food intolerances, and hampered immunity - I spend a lot of time researching products and studies in this arena.
Got digestive issues? Well, join every one in America. Lucky for you, I'm a bit of an enzyme aficionado. I've been taking some sort of enzyme combo with every meal for the past three years. I'm going to break down which ones to take, when to take em, and where to get em!
adrenal fatigue
Welcome, welcome all you tired and weary people. If you suspect you have Adrenal Fatigue and haven't had it confirmed, please read my post on the symptoms and How To Diagnose Adrenal Fatigue. You can't properly treat Adrenal Fatigue until you know where you're at.
Trust me, it's not scary. It doesn't hurt. It's not just for hangovers. And you're going love it. IV therapy is something that was always on my list of things "to try." I had read about Meyers cocktails throughout my research and it just seemed that IV nutrition was the perfect solution for those with compromised digestion, malabsorption, and chronic illness.
Listen up my red-eyed-heart-racing-can't-shut-off-the-brain friends - I've got some healthy, natural insomnia remedies for you! I've had my fair share of sleepless nights– and no, I don't even have kids! I've always been a night owl, plus I have Type A disorder + adrenal issues + a creative mind. And all that = extremely restless nights. Followed up by very crabby days.
I'm currently sitting on a plane leaving sunny Houston for snowy Chicago. To my right, is a lady immersed in a riveting game of Candy Crush and currently paying $5.50 for a $.29 Cup of Noodles. Translation: she's paying $5.50 for styrofoam cup of freeze dried gluten, sodium, and chemicals mixed with hot, dirty airplane water.
Adrenal Fatigue is a phrase being thrown around a lot lately (especially in holistic circles). But what does it mean to have Adrenal Fatigue? And how do you get a concrete diagnosis? I wrote a post for My Health Journey series sort of introducing the topic. I was told I had adrenal fatigue in 2013, and have gone through three different avenues/doctors to diagnose and understand the severity. It's extremely important to not only know IF you have it, but to understand HOW advanced it is.
green home
Mama Brit just can’t fork out six hundred bucks for a single near-infrared light right now, ya feel me?
I had thought about making my own for awhile, but as per usual, I kept over thinking myself out of it.
Houseplants are muy important for purifying the air in your home, which as most of us are now aware is more toxic than the air outdoors. Have no clue what I'm referring to? Dr. Axe will tell you all about it. One of the easiest ways we can improve air quality in our homes is by having plants around! But I understand your struggle is real. My name is Brit. My heart is green, but my thumb is black.
So I'm cutting right to the chase here, which is interesting because I've never chased anything in my life. I'm winded just thinking about it. I get the overwhelming task of figuring out HOW to start cleaning up your life. We all know diet is a big part of that, but there are TONS of ways we are inundated with toxins on a daily basis. I'm going to help you get started by prioritizing a few areas that will make a HUGE impact on your overall toxic burden.
In these “uncertain and unprecedented times” I think there’s one thing we can all agree on: every time we have a cough, we think it’s Rona coming for us.
